Crane Mobile

My Crane Mobile!
I got this idea from a YouTube Video a while ago so I cannot locate it anymore. Sorry guys.

To make this amazing crane mobile you will need:
Paper Cranes, you can use as many or as little as you would like. You can use whatever material you would like. I used origami paper for mine but if you don't have origami paper you can use any type of paper (even magazines and newspapers) that is cut into squares and for a tutorial on making paper cranes you can go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ux1ECrNDZl4 or you can google it if you don't want a video.
White Thread or Fishing Line, you can also use colored thread but it will be more noticeable then if you use white thread or fishing line
A Needle, don't worry there's not any sewing involved
Scissors
Masking Tape or Painting Tape (the kind you use when painting walls), you will use this to put the cranes on the wall so something wall safe and preferably neutral colored so it's less noticeable. You can also insert hooks into your wall but beware that would be the permanent option for this project so wall safe tape is highly recommended.

The most diificult part of this project is probably tying the string to the crane so I have tons of pictures that will hopefully help. I have tried a couple different ways and the way that I am about to show you is the probably the most secure way so your cranes will never fall on you.

First we have to take our paper crane...
Cut our thread or fishing line a little bit longer then the length you are going to want the cranes to be hanging from your ceiling. It is always better to have more than less.

And thread our needle...
You are going to want to insert the needle into the gaps where the head and tail are tucked. It doesn't matter what gap you insert the needle into first. I know this might be confusing so I tried as hard as possible to Illustrate what I'm talking about in the picture below.
Push the needle through so it comes out the other gap...
And pull you string through leaving a decent size tail. The longer the tail the easier it is to do the next couple of steps.
You are then going to want to take your needle off the thread. And tie a knot with the two ends of string. Your knot should end up at the point of the crane's body.
Make sure you cut off the excess string. This makes it look cleaner.
And now we are ready to tape it on the wall. It couldn't be any easier.
Take a piece of tape...
Position your crane on the wall, the spot and the height that you want it...
And tape it to wall. After you have done all of yours it should look a little something like this...
Please ignore my blue tape (I didn't have any neutral colored wall safe tape when I was doing this) and the excess string (I am not quite sure they are all where I want them quite yet). When you are sure that everything is where you want it feel free to cut off the excess string so you son't have so much string dangling around (this will help it seem like the cranes are just floating in air). Have fun and make it you own. This would also be really cool if you used other origami birds or flying animals like butterflies. You would have to find out how to attach the string though. Make it your own.

It is my goal now to try to (please don't be mad at me if I don't) post a DIY every Sunday and an art journal post every Wednesday. I will at least try to post at least once a week.
