This has got to be one of my favorites. I think it looks very professional and just really neat and very me.
I got the inspiration from... My brain. For this one there was no pin or picture from the Internet that inspired me. My idea for this project started when I was on google looking at elephant pictures for the elephant and butterfly page that I did. I saw the elephant (yes it's a print out) and I fell in love. I knew I had to use it somewhere and somehow. I was still on my obsessive newspaper and watercolor phase as I had just discovered watercolors (again from the other elephant page) and there's not really an explanation for the newspaper.... I wanted to do something with ripped newspaper instead of just a sheet and wanted to watercolor the newspaper but a lighter water color. I ended up just doing a background with the water colored newspaper. I'd love it if someone made this as it was my original idea.
But before I start I just want to apologize because there aren't as many pictures for this one.
What you'll need:
Art Journal/Piece of Paper/A medium to do this one like a canvas or cardboard if you wish (like always)
A work station and a surface on which you can get watercolor/paint on if you are water coloring/painting. I purposely get watercolor on my mat because it makes sure I get all edges and corners.
A print out of an elephant preferably larger but small enough to fit on the page. You can also draw your own if that is your strong suit or you want to take on something new. I, however printed it off from here http://www.easy-drawings-and-sketches.com/draw-an-elephant.html
Newspaper or you could use a magazine or normal paper or whatever you would like. I like the look of newspaper
Water color or if you would prefer another type of paint of coloring utensil or nothing if don't want it colorful. I went with blue and green like the grass and the sky but you could do rainbow or one color, or whatever.
If you are using water color or another type of paint you'll need a brush and a cup of water. (the cup of water is also for the mod podge paint brush)
Mod Podge
A paint brush for the mod podge. I would use a bigger brush
Scissors
The first thing you are going to want to do if just print off your elephant or draw it if you would like.
And then just cut it out all around the edges because that is how you cut things out...
You are then going to want to do a rough outline of your elephant on your paper/medium so when you go to glue down your newspaper pieces you don't have to put newspaper scraps under the big body of the elephant and you have a nice, pretty, even border for the elephant.
And rip up your newspaper/paper...Water color it or color it or whatever you want to do with the newspaper pieces. I split mine up into two piles and did half blue and half green like the sky and the grass. You may not be able to tell but I used different shades of blue and green to add variety and interest. I don't have a picture of them painted and drying on the mat (sorry) but again this is the final project...
I really like how it tried out and hope you will try this at home. I also think that this type of background would work really well with pretty much anything. You could do a bird or another animal like your favorite animal. So take it and make it your own.
