Dreamcatcher

The Finished Project...
My Inspiration...
came from a variety of places and just basically everywhere. I just saw them around and decided I should make one of my own.

To make a dreamcatcher you can use a variety of things and just basically anything in general.
I used...
A wooden hoop set that is used to cross stitch. The top hoop has a metal screw fastener which is how the two fit together. I realized after the fact that I could just use one hoop.
And some embroidery floss to wrap the hoop and make the dreamcatcher pattern in the middle

The first thing you are going to want to do if you want to so it is to wrap your hoops.
I had trouble securing my string to the outer hoop because of the metal fastener. Instead of tying a knot around the wooden hoop I tied it around the metal fastener. I realized after the fact that I could've just used hot glue to secure and that is what I would recommend.

Since I was using the two hoops I have two methods of wrapping.
The first is very solid and neat. To achieve this you wrap the string very close to the other string. I decided to use multiple colors.

To secure the ends of multiple colors (or if you were doing a solid color and ran out of your first string and needed to put on a new string) just tie the end in a knot around the sting and then start wrapping your next string around the ends of the last string.
 This is halfway through wrapping...

This is all the way through wrapping

Now the second version is more messy and free.
This basically consists of taking random pieces of string tying them around the hoop and then wrapping the string randomly around the hoop with spaces in between.
Now if you noticed or didn't notice I tied my knots for the outer hoop on the inside and for the inner hoop on the inside. None of the knots should show when you put them together.

Keep repeating the random string wrapping until the hoop is basically covered in solid string...
Now for the webbing. I found the webbing quite difficult so instead of trying to explain this to you I have some YouTube videos to explain it to you.
There is this  video and this video which both explain the dreamcatcher inside. One them also includes the history.
I would also like to point out that if you are using multiple hoops then you wrap the hoop that goes on the inside.
With all of that said this is my dreamcatcher looping...

Once all of that is done it is time to decorate and Make It Your Own!!!
I decided to tie some cranes on mine. In fact the cranes from my Crane Mobile. But the possibilities are endless: ribbon beads, chains, necklaces, practically anything.
And then I had to put on the outer layer which was a chore and I was done!
Some things I want to point out...
1. To make a dreamcatcher you don't even have to do the wrapping in the middle as found in this unique dreamcatchers video.
2. It would totally be easier to wrap the outside with a thicker string
3. I think this would be so much easier with only one hoop
4. When you are making the loops in the middle start out bigger than smaller so that you can go farther in.

That is it and make sure to make it your own. If you do make one send me a picture on Pinterest. It's glueandyou.
